Title:  (SR500) NHI Innovations Severe-Duty Crash Attenuator
Date/Time:  1/17/2013 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM Eastern Time
Description:  The Severe-Duty Crash Attenuator Webinar will highlight experiences various State Departments of Transportation are having with severe-duty crash attenuators. The focus will be: Experiences with the use of severe duty crash cushions Lessons learned: Which crash cushions work well in a given situation Quick repair information Durability of the products Ease of maintenance Uniformity of using the same product Severe-Duty Crash Attenuators are a relatively new suite of devices, particularly suitable for high-incidence locations, offering either superior cost effectiveness, improved safety for the traveling public and repair workers, or both. These units perform well in roadway design speed, frontal and side impacts with minimal damage to system components, reducing repair cost and duration. The technology passed the requirements for crash attenuators as specified in the National Cooperative Highway Research Project (NCHRP) Report 350, "Recommended Procedures for the Safety Performance Evaluation of Highway Features" test level 3, in 2003. Severe Duty Crash Attenuators are now in use across the U.S. Primary Technology Benefits Lower repair parts costs compared to systems damaged in similar impact conditions. Improved roadway worker safety: attenuators have fewer parts and can be restored to service in under 30 minutes reducing the traveling publics' exposure to repair vehicles and lane closures. Moderator Tony Tavares, Chief, Division of Maintenance, California Department of Transportation Presenters: Troy Bucko, Caltrans District 11 Traffic Operations Rod Lacy, Engineering Manager, Kansas Department of Transportation Kevin Killian, Maintenance Supervisor II, Nevada Department of Transportation
