Title:  (SR250) Introduction to TIFIA Federal Credit Assistance Program
Date/Time:  3/21/2012 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM Eastern Time
Description:  Many States and metropolitan areas are faced with increasing traffic congestion and inadequate sources of transportation revenue to address transportation investment needs. In 1998, the U.S. Congress passed the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act, or TIFIA, which established a U.S. Federal credit program for eligible surface transportation projects of national or regional significance. Under this program, the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) is authorized to provide three types of credit assistance--direct secured loans, loan guarantees, and standby lines of credit. The objective of the TIFIA program is to leverage U.S. Federal transportation funding by attracting private investment to the U.S. surface transportation sector. Toward this end, TIFIA funding is available to State DOTs, transit operators, special transportation authorities, local governments, and private investors. As of September 2011, the U.S. DOT has approved in excess of $8.4 billion of funding under the TIFIA program. This course will assist FHWA Transportation Professionals in understanding TIFIA fundamentals, identifying eligible projects that may benefit from TIFIA credit assistance, providing better guidance on how TIFIA works, and enabling Transportation Professionals to provide better guidance to State and local partners
