(SR250) Transportation Planning in Transportation Management Areas
1/8/2014 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM EST
The 2010 Census identified significant growth in urban area population across the U.S., increasing the number of urbanized areas (UZA) with populations exceeding 200,000 people. In accordance with Federal law, UZAs with 200,000 residents are designated by the U.S. Department of Transportation as 'transportation management areas' (TMA), affording transportation officials greater decisionmaking authority and added planning responsibilities, than in non-TMAs. This webinar will describe the transportation planning activities required in TMAs, anticipated outcomes, and the procedural steps to be taken by transit providers, metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), and States to ensure that the new and changed responsibilities are met timely and effectively. By the end of the webinar, participants should have a full understanding of the transportation planning processes and products of a TMA, and the strategic value of metropolitan planning in advancing the transportation vision for the area.
