Title:  (SR300)Talking Freight - Transportation Based Needs and Impacts of Fracking-Based Energy Extraction
Date/Time:  9/18/2013 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM Eastern Time
Description:  Energy extraction activities in the United States have grown dramatically in recent years, due to a variety of factors related to higher fuel prices and technological innovations with energy extraction techniques. More specifically, hydraulic fracturing extraction, more commonly called fracking, has emerged as an increasingly common technique to extract both petroleum and natural gas from shale formations. Fracking activities are providing an increasing number of jobs in the communities where they take place, but they also create various impacts, particularly transportation impacts, in those communities due to fracking activities' supply chain requirements. Understanding why fracking-based extraction is increasing, where it is most likely to occur in the future, and what fracking's freight transportation needs are will help states and communities better plan for and address current and future energy extraction-related freight transportation needs. This webinar will provide information that explains why extraction activities have increased and what the freight needs and impacts of those activities are. It will also include discussion about at least one way transportation professionals can exchange information with their peers and gain new insights about energy extraction's transportation needs.
